Abstract:
El presente artículo centra su atención en combinar, de manera productiva, algunas de las tesis centrales del análisis de la metáfora y la metonimia que se ofrecen en la Teoría de la Relevancia con otras tesis, relacionadas con las primeras, procedentes de la Lingüística Cognitiva. Aunque el Principio de Relevancia subyace a toda forma de comunicación por medio del lenguaje y es un factor motivador de la existencia de metáforas y metonimias, es insuficiente para determinar analíticamente la naturaleza exacta de las operaciones cognitivas que tienen lugar durante la producción y comprensión del lenguaje. Asimismo, existen factores de restricción, tales como los principios de Invarianza Extendido y de Correlación, que regulan la manera en que se usan la metáfora y la metonimia. El artículo trata también el problema de la estructura emergente en la producción de metáforas. En este sentido, propone una versión modificada de la teoría de Integración Conceptual. Dicha versión postula la existencia de operaciones cognitivas diversas y define su papel en la producción de inferencias que se combinan, ajustándose a ciertos principios, para producir nuevas estructuras conceptuales. El proceso de creación de estas estructuras cumple, en todos sus estadios, con los requisitos de relevancia en lo que respecta a su eficacia comunicativa, así como con los principios cognitivos ya mencionados como factores de restricción. ; El present article centra la seva atenció a combinar, de manera productiva, algunes de les tesis centrals de l'anàlisi de la metàfora i la metonímia que s'ofereixen en la Teoria de la Rellevància amb altres tesis, relacionades amb les primeres, procedents de la Lingüística Cognitiva. Encara que el Principi de Rellevància subjeu a tota forma de comunicació per mitjà del llenguatge i és un factor motivador de l'existència de metàfores i metonímies, és insuficient per determinar analíticament la naturalesa exacta de les operacions cognitives que tenen lloc durant la producció i comprensió del llenguatge. Així mateix, existeixen factors de restricció, tals com els principis de Invariança Estès i de Correlació, que regulen la manera en què s'usen la metàfora i la metonímia. L'article tracta també el problema de l'estructura emergent en la producció de metàfores. En aquest sentit, proposa una versió modificada de la teoria d'Integració Conceptual. Aquesta versió postula l'existència d'operacions cognitives diverses i defineix el seu paper en la producció d'inferències que es combinen, ajustant-se a certs principis, per produir noves estructures conceptuals. El procés de creació d'aquestes estructures compleix, en tots els seus estadis, amb els requisits de rellevància pel que fa a la seva eficàcia comunicativa, així com amb els principis cognitius ja esmentats com a factors de restricció. ; This article is focused on the productive combination of some of the central assumptions of the relevance-theoretic analysis of metaphor and metonymy with related assumptions in Cognitive Linguistics. While the Principle of Relevance is argued to underlie all forms of verbal communication and to be able to motivate metaphor and metonymy, it falls short of allowing the analyst to determine the precise nature of the cognitive operations that take place during language production and comprehension. Furthermore, there are constraining factors that regulate the way in which metaphor and metonymy are used, such as the Extended Invariance and the Correlation principles. The article also addresses the problem of emergent structure in metaphor by proposing a modified version of Blending Theory, based on an account of cognitive operations and their role in producing inferences that are combined in a principled way into new conceptual constructs. The process complies at all stages with relevance requirements in terms of communicative efficiency and with the Extended Invariance and the Correlation principles as cognitively adequate constraining factors.
