Abstract: International audience ; La zone du Croissant linguistique correspond à la frange Nord du Massif Central (Ronjat 1913). Dans cette zone, on pratique traditionnellement des parlers gallo-romans de transition, présentant simultanément des traits typiques des variétés d’oc (occitan limousin, auvergnat) et d’oïl (français, poitevin-saintongeais). Les parlers du Croissant sont aujourd’hui extrêmement menacés. La disparition de ces parlers s’inscrit dans un processus bien plus large de disparition des langues (Crystal 2000 ; Austin & Sallabank 2011). La disparition des parlers du Croissant, aujourd’hui presque inéluctable, est due à plusieurs facteurs ayant modifié la culture locale (Crystal 2000). L’étude des questions liées à l’identité des populations locales permet également de mieux comprendre la situation actuelle de ces parlers. Enfin, depuis plusieurs années, des initiatives pour conserver ou tenter de perpétuer ces parlers ont ponctuellement émergé, mais elles sont probablement trop tardives et trop peu nombreuses pour permettre d’enrayer le processus de disparition progressive de la langue.
