Il nome di Odysseus
Nova, Isabella
(orcid:0000-0002-7880-4856). - 2021
Abstract:
; This paper deals with the name of the protagonist of the Odyssey, defined as Odysseus in written literary documents but labelled with different (but coherent) forms on Greek vase-inscriptions. An analysis of these variants, togheter with their distribution shows that the epic form Odysseus is not used before the 5th century B.C. but it becomes unanimously attested after that date. On the other hand, the only painter familiar with the epic form (the Iscription Painter) in the 6th century may be have derived it from the Ionic colonizers in the area where he was active (Rhegion).
