Sobre la variedad de aproximaciones mentalistas al lenguaje: comparación de enfoques y perspectivas de encuentro

Abstract:
In this paper we deal with two mentalist approaches to the study of language: the generative and the cognitive approaches. First, we put forward the assumptions of generative linguistics, which is focused on the formal study of computational properties of language; and, second, we compare them with those of the alternative program of cognitive linguistics, according to which language is not to be analyzed as a specific computational property of the human mind but rather as a capacity based on general cognition principles. After having presented the different theoretical foundations of both approaches, some meeting points between them are offered. The present work concludes with an appeal to the need to establish some bridges between different approaches that allow them to face the challenges currently posed by different advances in language sciences and cognitive science in general. ; En este artículo revisamos dos aproximaciones mentalistas al estudio del lenguaje: el enfoque generativista y el cognitivista. En primer lugar, exponemos los supuestos básicos de la lingüística generativa, centrada en el estudio formal de las propiedades computacionales del lenguaje, y, en segundo lugar, los comparamos con los de la corriente alternativa de la lingüística cognitiva, según la cual el lenguaje no se analiza como una propiedad computacional específica de la mente humana sino más bien como una capacidad que participa de los principios generales de la cognición. Una vez presentados los distintos fundamentos teóricos de ambas corrientes, ofrecemos algunas perspectivas de encuentro entre ellas. El trabajo concluye con un llamamiento a la necesidad de establecer puentes de diálogo entre los diferentes enfoques para superar los retos que plantean los diferentes avances en las ciencias del lenguaje y la ciencia cognitiva en general.
