Abstract:
Dieser Beitrag widmet sich der kulturellen Repräsentation im Rahmen der Mehrsprachigkeitsforschung. Es werden Forschungsansätze behandelt, die davon ausgehen, dass Personen sich in unterschiedlichen Sprachen auch unterschiedlich präsentieren. Darüber hinaus wird in diesen Zusammenhang die These vertreten, dass Übersetzer/innen und Forschende im Zuge ihrer Übersetzungsarbeit die lebengeschichtlichen Fälle ihrer Untersuchungen nicht nur beschreiben, sondern auch mit konstruieren. Die Repräsentationsakte seitens der Beforschten wie auch der Forschenden über Sprachgrenzen hinweg haben Konsequenzen für die Forschungsergebnisse. Unsere Grundüberlegungen werden wir anhand eigener Forschung über polnisch sprechende Personen im Großraum Manchester (England) illustrieren. Es werden Aspekte der Interpretation und Translation in der Erzählforschung beleuchtet, um von dort ausgehend zentale methodologische Überlegungen für den Forschungsprozess in den Blick zu nehmen. Wir sprechen uns dabei gegen die Behandlung von Sprache als undifferenziertes Medium aus und ebenso gegen die Sichtweise, dass Personen, die eine bestimmte Sprache sprechen, problemlos alle Sprecher/innen dieser Sprache repräsentieren können. Alle Sprachen sind sprachintern differenziert und wer übersetzt, greift in die Ergebniskonstruktion ein. ; This article is concerned with issues of representation within cross language research. We examine research that suggests people may present themselves differently in different languages. Moreover, it has been argued that translators/researchers produce accounts of people's lives rather than just describe them within their translations. These representational moves by both research participants and researchers across languages have consequences for research findings. We illustrate our arguments in relation to research with Polish speakers in Greater Manchester, England and argue for issues of interpretation and translation within narrative research to move out of methodological notes to become central concerns within research processes. We argue particularly against the treatment of language as an undifferentiated medium and the view that anyone who can speak a language can unproblematically represent all speakers of that language. All languages are internally differentiated and who translates influences the findings. ; Este artículo aborda los temas de la representación dentro de la investigación de interlenguaje. Examinamos investigación que sugiere que la gente suele presentarse a sí misma de modo diferente, en diferentes lenguajes. Además, se ha argumentado que los traductores/ investigadores producen explicaciones de la vida de la gente, en lugar de sólo describirlas dentro de sus traducciones. Estos movimientos representacionales tanto de los participantes de la investigación como de los investigadores a través de los lenguajes, tienen consecuencias en los hallazgos de la investigación. Ilustramos nuestros argumentos al investigar con hablantes polacos en Gran Manchester, Inglaterra y abogamos por que los temas de la interpretación y la traducción sean preocupaciones centrales dentro del proceso de investigación en lugar de notas de investigación. Argumentamos particularmente en contra del tratamiento del lenguaje como un medio indiferenciado y contra la visión de que cualquiera que hable una lengua puede, sin inconvenientes, representar a todos los hablantes de esa lengua. Todos los lenguajes están internamente diferenciados y quien traduce, influencia los hallazgos.
