How do white researchers think? Epistemological and methodological proposals ; Comment pensent les chercheuses blanches ? Propositions épistémologiques et méthodologiques

Abstract:
International audience ; This article raises the question of whiteness in research in humanities and social sciences, and more particularly in discourse analysis, at two levels: that of the object of whiteness, developed in English-speaking whiteness studies but little dealt with in France, where the field of race studies is still in its infancy; and that of the white condition of researchers working on this question, which is little questioned but nevertheless rich in epistemological and methodological issues. The article first defines the category of whiteness as a relationship of power and a relationship to knowledge and then describes the scientific and political problems it poses in research practice. Finally, it presents proposals for a research position that integrates the researcher's whiteness and develops the linguistic hypothesis of a white enunciation based on data from folk linguistics. ; Cet article pose la question de la blanchité dans la recherche en sciences humaines et sociales et plus particulièrement en analyse du discours, à deux niveaux : celui de l'objet blanchité, développé dans les whiteness studies anglophones mais peu traité en France où le champ des études de race en est à ses débuts ; celui de la condition blanche des chercheur•es qui travaillent sur cette question, peu interrogée mais pourtant riche de questionnements épistémologiques et méthodologiques. L'article définit d'abord la catégorie de la blanchité comme un rapport de pouvoir et un rapport au savoir et décrit ensuite les problèmes scientifiques et politiques qu'elle pose dans la pratique de la recherche. Il présente enfin des propositions pour un positionnement de recherche qui intègre la blanchité de la chercheuse et développe l'hypothèse linguistique d'une énonciation blanche à partir de données relevant de la linguistique profane.
