Abstract:
International audience ; Cet article examine l’emploi du présent de narration dans l’interaction à partir d’un corpus tiré d’émissions de radio. Il analyse l’alternance entre présent et prétérit et argumente que la fictionnalisation du présent de narration explique son apparition entre autres dans les séquences saillantes d’un point de vue discursif, en particulier celles qui expriment une situation surprenante. Le rôle de la forme progressive associée au présent est pris en compte. Les formes introductives de discours rapporté étant les plus sujettes à cette alternance temporelle, sont ensuite comparés le verbe introducteur say et la construction (be) like. On montre que le statut du discours rapporté est différent dans les deux cas, say impliquant à la fois une situation et une source assertive, tandis que le complément de (be) like est avant tout le signe approximatif d’un dire censé représenter une situation ou un type de situation. ; Based on a sample drawn from radio broadcasts, this paper accounts for the use of the historical present in conversation. The switching between the present tense and the preterit is analysed. It is argued that the historical present tense fictionalizes events, which explains why, among other things, it tends to be used to discursively narrate salient sequences, and more specifically those that refer to surprising situations. The role of the progressive form combined with the present tense is taken into account. Verbs of saying being particularly prone to tense alternation, the verb say is then compared with the construction (be) like. Reported discourse introduced by these forms is shown to be different, say implying both a reported situation and an assertive source, whereas the complement of (be) like functions like an approximate discourse token supposed to stand for some situation or situation type.
