Work on grammer formalism concentrated mainly on increasing the power of the subscript grammer to prevent intermediate 'forced' readings. Work in system construction concentrated on the completion of the grammer maintenance programs and on the core of the system programs used by all analysis and production algorithms. The linguistic work concentrated on the coverage of the German surface syntax, the 'choice rules' for the generation of the corresponding standard structures (deep structures), and their grammatical description.
