Abstract:
School-aged students with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) are at significant risk of poor educational outcomes (see Conti-Ramsden, Durkin, Toseeb, Botting, & Pickles, 2017; Johnson, Beitchman, & Brownlie, 2010) with families reporting there is a need for greater mutual understanding between educators, allied health professionals and parents to address the challenges for students with DLD. The ability to understand and use spoken language is critical for succeeding at school. Longitudinal studies that address the relationship between language development and academic achievement are few. This research will examine the educational needs and necessary supports for students with DLD and the priorities of key stakeholders in the education process, including educators, allied health professionals, parents and adolescents with DLD.
