Abstract:
; A number of clichés about the Portuguese language are frequently repeated without any idea of what they truly mean. Quotations like "my homeland is the Portuguese language", and "from my language one can see the sea" are often used out of the context and without the intentions they had been originally produced with, and statements about Portuguese as a global, international and pluricentric language frequently mix facts with ungrounded idealizations. These "half truths" may be innocuous in free and poetic contexts, but they may become inconvenient in language policy scenarios. This text aims at demystifying some of these clichés and reflecting upon the aspects that must be considered fundamental for Portuguese as a pluricentric language. ; info:eu-repo/semantics/updatedVersion
