In: Mutatis Mutandis: Revista Latinoamericana de Traducción, ISSN 0211-799X, Vol. 9, Nº. 1, 2016 (Ejemplar dedicado a: Literatura italiana traducida en Brasil), pags. 42-52 (2016)
Abstract: The study of the reception of the work of Edmondo de Amicis is of particular interest to the Brazilian public, which has been an avid reader of the book Heart. His travelogues Morocco and the Netherlands were published in Portugal and subsequently acquired and released in Brazil by Francisco Alves Publishing Co., in beautiful editions that did justice to the writer, a master in the genre of adventurous and exotic stories. But the work of this author that could arise greatest interest on the part of Brazilian readers is the novel Sull’Oceano, which recounts the conditions of suffering and misery on the ships that brought the Italian emigrants to South America, at the end of the 19th century. Unfortunately,in spite of the announcement of its publication in Brazil by Francisco Alves Publisher, On the Ocean left no trace in the Brazilian market, for reasons we can only conjecture.
