Abstract:
International audience ; In the systems of Ancient Greek and Modern Greek, the notion that can be called “presumptive” (French “éventuel”) is used in syntactic contexts which are remarkably close (in hypothetical, temporal and relative clauses), even if the morpho-syntactic components are quite different: subjunctive with ἄν in Ancient Greek, bare aoristic verbal form, without any premorpheme, in Modern Greek. We try to go further and to define more accurately the notion of “presumptive” in two ways: we compare the two languages, and we use as a revealing tool the adverb τυχόν which is integrated in the syntatic patterns of presumptive in Modern Greek, but not in Ancient Greek. Our study seeks to provide a contribution to the definition of a category which does not pertain only to modality, and to the parameters for the maintaining of τυχόν in Modern Greek. ; Dans les systèmes du grec ancien et du grec moderne, ce que l’on peut appeler « éventuel », occupe des positions syntaxiques remarquablement proches (dans les hypothétiques, les temporelles et les relatives), même si le matériau morpho-syntaxique diffère : le subjonctif accompagné de ἄν en grec ancien, le thème verbal d’aoriste « nu », i.e. sans prémorphème en grec moderne. Nous essayons d’approfondir cette notion d’éventuel en confrontant les deux langues et en utilisant le prisme de l’adverbe τυχόν, intégré dans la syntaxe de l’éventuel en grec moderne, mais non en grec ancien. Notre étude est ainsi une contribution à l’étude d’une catégorie qui n’est pas simplement modale, tout en proposant une réflexion sur les conditions du maintien de τυχόν en grec moderne.
