Esta tese apresenta uma descrição linguística do dialeto árabe da cidade de Essaouira, conhecida no passado como Mogador, situada no sul do Marrocos. Localizada na fronteira linguística dos territórios Chiadma (árabe) e Haha (berbere), Essaouira foi ignorada pela dialetologia do árabe, pois acreditava-se que sua população muçulmana seria berbere (Heath, 2002), de modo que chegou até nós apenas um estudo do dialeto dos muçulmanos (Socin, 1893), ao passo que todos os outros se dedicaram ao dialeto judeu da cidade (Lévy, 1994, 2009; Heath, 2002; Chetrit, 2012). A fim de preencher essa lacuna, realizou-se a documentação linguística das variedades de muçulmanos e judeus por meio da aplicação de questionário dialetológico e registro de conversação livre (Behnstedt, 1995; Caubet 2001; Behnstedt e Woidich, 2013) e, em seguida, apresentamos um estudo linguístico abrangendo fonética e fonologia, morfologia verbal e morfologia nominal do dialeto. Constatou-se que o dialeto urbano de Essaouira consiste numa variedade de tipo beduíno hilaliano ou central (Colin, 1945; 1986), mas com traços beduínos saarianos e também pré-hilalianos citadinos, o que poderia ser explicado pela história da formação da população da cidade. O dialeto de Essaouira também revelou muitos traços linguísticos em comum com variedades do sudeste do Marrocos. ; This thesis presents a linguistic description of the Arabic dialect of Essaouira, once known as Mogador, situated in the South of Morocco. Located at the linguistic border between the Chiadma (Arabic) and Haha (Berber) territories, Essaouira has been ignored by the Arabic Dialectology scholarship, since its Muslim population was considered Berber (Heath, 2002). Therefore, only one single study on the Muslim dialect (Socin, 1893) arrived to this day, while all the other ones focused on the Jewish dialect of the city (Lévy, 1994, 2009; Heath, 2002; Chetrit, 2012). We aimed at documenting linguistically both varieties the Muslim and the Jewish ones in order to fill this gap in the area. We resorted to dialectological questionnaires and recording free conversation speech (Behnstedt, 1995; Caubet 2001; Behnstedt e Woidich, 2013). Then, a linguistic study follows, presenting data on the phonetics and phonology, verbal morphology and nominal morphology of the dialect. We confirmed that the urban dialect of Essaouira consists of a Bedouin hilalian type variety (Colin, 1945; 1986), however it contains Bedouin Saharan features and pre-hilalian features as well, probably due to the History of formation of its population. The dialect of Essaouira also showed several linguistic traits shared by southeastern Moroccan varieties.
