Abstract:
Cet article examine l’activité d’interprétariat en contexte judiciaire lorsqu’elle se déroule en mobilisant un dispositif de visioconférence destiné à mettre en relation un(e) interprète présent(e) dans la salle d’audience auprès de la cour et un prévenu situé dans un site distant. En nous appuyant sur un corpus audiovisuel d’audiences judiciaires filmées dans les chambres de l’instruction en France, nous comparons les ressources mobilisées pour interagir dans les situations d’audiences médiatisées avec celles utilisées lorsque prévenu et interprète sont tous deux présents dans la salle d’audience. L’examen de ces séquences révèle dans un premier temps la complexité de la situation judiciaire impliquant un(e) interprète lorsqu’elle s’inscrit en outre dans un dispositif médiatisé avec participants distants : pour s’adapter aux contraintes interactionnelles que celui-ci induit, les participants ont recours à des ressources conversationnelles qui diffèrent de celles mobilisées en face-à-face. Nous étudions dans un deuxième temps les problèmes d’adresse qui se posent pour la personne située dans un site distant désirant s’adresser à la cour via l’interprète. Dans la lignée des travaux conversationnels sur l’adresse (Lerner 2003 ; Clayman 2010, 2013), nous analysons l’impact séquentiel de l’utilisation par une personne en site distant d’un terme d’adresse. ; `titreb Videoconference courtroom interpreting in French pre-trial remand hearings: a conversation-analytic study of interpreting in a distributed mediated arrangement `/titreb This contribution examines the activity of interpreting in judicial contexts when it takes place through a video link, with an interpreter who is present in the courtroom and a remote defendant. On the basis of a video recorded corpus of pre-trial remand hearings in France, we compare the resources mobilized for interacting in spatially distributed, video-mediated hearings with those used when the accused and the interpreter are both present in the courtroom. First, the study of these sequences reveals the complexity of interpreter-mediated hearings when they involve remote participants and the mediation of screens: in order to adapt to the interactional constraints that this ecology imposes, the participants resort to interactive resources which differ from those mobilized in face to face interactions. Second, we study the the particular interactional work that is done by remote participants to address the Court via the interpreter. In line with interactional studies of address (Lerner 2003; Clayman 2010, 2013), we analyze the sequential impact of the use of an address term by a person in a distant site.
