Abstract: Mestrado em Ensino do 1º e 2º Ciclo do Ensino Básico ; Um dos tópicos inseridos no Programa de Matemática do Ensino Básico é o diagrama de caule-e-folhas, fazendo parte do tema de Organização e Tratamento de Dados. Sendo este um tópico matemático relativamente novo em termos educativos, importa informar os docentes e todos aqueles que outrora não tiveram contacto com esta representação gráfica. Como forma de facilitar o contacto com a informação necessário, criou-se um capítulo de apoio destinado ao diagrama de caule-e-folhas – a sua construção, exploração e comparação com outras representações gráficas. Antes da criação deste capítulo, propôs-se a análise de manuais escolares dos 1º e 2º ciclos do ensino básico, correspondendo do 3º ao 6º anos de escolaridade. Esta análise foi orientada por instrumentos de avaliação compostos por três dimensões: uma dimensão relativa às atividades e estratégias de ensino e aprendizagem dos alunos; a segunda dimensão referente à informação facultada sobre o tópico matemático nos manuais escolares; e a terceira dimensão respeitante ao rigor linguístico, concetual e científico verificado no tópico. Com base nas conclusões tiradas após a análise de manuais, foram criadas duas propostas didáticas, uma para cada ciclo de ensino. A metodologia adotada para esta investigação caracteriza-se por ser indutiva e exploratória, pois não assenta em hipóteses prévias e faz uso da exploração de recursos, com vista ao seu melhoramento e/ou desenvolvimento. A análise documental verifica-se pela análise dos manuais. Pretende-se com este estudo, aprofundar os conhecimentos acerca do tópico matemático e fazer dele uma base de apoio para professores que se interessem por uma melhor prática docente. ; One of the topics inserted in the Elementary School Mathematics Program on Organization and Data Treatment is stem and leaf diagram. Being this a relatively new mathematical topic in educational terms, it is important to inform teachers and everyone who haven’t had a contact with this graphical representation. In a way of making things easier to acknowledge information, we created a support chapter destined to the stem and leaf diagram – its construction, exploration and comparison with other graphical representations. Before the creation of this chapter, it was proposed the analysis of several textbooks from both elementary and middle school, going from the 3rd to the 6th grade. This analysis was oriented by evaluation instruments composed by three dimensions: the first concerns the activities and strategies used on the learning process; the second refers to the information available about the mathematical topic in the textbooks; and the third is about the linguistics, scientific and conceptual strictness are verified on the topic. Based on conclusions taken after textbook’s analysis, it has been created two didactic proposals, one for the elementary and another for middle school. The methodology adopted for this investigation is characterized by being inductive and exploratory, as it doesn’t settle on previous hypothesis and uses resources exploration, though improving and/or developing them. The documental analysis is verified by the analysis of the textbooks. The foundation of this investigation is to deepen knowledge about the mathematical topic and make it a base of support to teachers that are fond for a better instructorship.
