Abstract: Dissertação de Mestrado Integrado em Psicologia apresentada à Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação ; A consciência metalinguística é caracterizada, por muitos autores, enquanto capacidade cognitiva de refletir e analisar, intencionalmente, os componentes estruturais da linguagem, a sua natureza e funções.A evidência de correlações positivas entre a consciência metalinguística e as competências de leitura e da escrita tem tornado esta matéria alvo de inúmeras investigações, dada a sua relevância a nível pedagógico e as implicações ao nível educacional. Nesta linha de pensamento, tem surgido a necessidade de encontrar estratégias válidas de avaliação e de intervenção, que permitam a análise das competências metalinguísticas e a sua relação com outras dimensões do desenvolvimento linguístico e cognitivo. É neste sentido que o THAM-3 (Figueira & Pinto, 2018) será o principal alvo da presente investigação, com o intuito de testar o instrumento e a sua adequação para avaliar as habilidades metalinguísticas.Assim, o presente estudo-piloto tem como principal objetivo contribuir para a adaptação e validação da versão portuguesa do THAM-3 (Figueira & Pinto, 2018), um instrumento de avaliação das capacidades metalinguísticas, destinado a indivíduos com idade superior a 16 anos. O estudo exploratório foi realizado com uma amostra de 29 sujeitos portugueses, estudantes universitários do Instituto Superior de Ciências Policiais e Segurança Interna de Lisboa. Realizaram-se análises estatísticas para testar a adequação e dificuldade dos itens, compreender as limitações inerentes ao teste e à sua metodologia. ; Metalinguistic awareness is characterized by many authors as a cognitive ability to intentionally reflect and analyze the structural components of the language, its nature and functions.The evidence of positive correlations between metalinguistic awareness and reading and writing skills has made this subject the subject of numerous investigations, given its pedagogical relevance and implications at the educational level. In this line of thinking, there has been a need to find valid assessment to intervention and evaluation strategies that allow the analysis of metalinguistic competences and their relation to other dimensions of linguistic and cognitive development. In this sense, the THAM-3 (Figueira & Pinto, 2018) will be the main target of the present investigation, with the intention to test the instrument and its adequacy to evaluate the metalinguistic abilities.Thus, the main objective of this pilot study is to contribute to the adaptation and validation of the Portuguese version of the THAM-3 (Figueira & Pinto, 2018), an instrument for the evaluation of metalinguistic abilities, aimed at individuals aged over 16 years. The exploratory study was carried out with a sample of 29 Portuguese subjects, university students, currently studying in Instituto Superior de Ciências Policiais e Segurança Interna of Lisbon. The statistical analyzes were performed to test the adequacy and difficulty of the items, to understand the inherent limitations of the test and of its methodology.
