Abstract:
Cette recherche prend, comme première figure de l’artiste, le chaman, et je me propose de le nommer ‘artiste-chaman’. Pour bâtir l’identité de l’artiste dans une société contemporaine et métissée, cette recherche s’oriente vers les caractéristiques spirituelles du chaman ainsi que vers la quête d’un sens donné à une spiritualité individuelle. La problématique principale de cette thèse se forme à partir d’une question : L’aura d’une œuvre d’art, en particulier la peinture, est-elle la conséquence d’une démarche mythe-biographique ? Ce travail établit une réflexion sur l’action créative, soumise à une mythologie personnelle. Le concept de mythe dans une imagerie personnelle, ainsi que son lien à l’espace intérieur-extérieur — ce monde qui l’entoure et celui qui l’habite, au travers desquels l’artiste s’identifie en tant que tel — forment ensemble le schéma de ce travail. En regard des caractéristiques communes entre la place du chaman et la place de l’artiste dans une société, cette thèse propose la considération d’un élément mythe-biographique présent dans toute démarche artistique, un élément qui cherche à surmonter l’artiste et à transcender l’être parlant. La mythologie personnelle et l’aura de l’œuvre d’art forment la base conceptuelle de cette thèse. Elle est construite à partir d’une sensibilité personnelle par rapport à l’art. Je propose donc quelques questions : le mythe personnel pourrait-il être le seul sujet d’une œuvre d’art ? L’artiste contemporain est-il un ‘artiste approximatif’ ? Qui pourrait être un artiste-chaman ? Cette thèse se construit également autour des problématiques primaires et matérielles de la vie de l’artiste. Où est la place de l’artiste dans la société contemporaine ? Est-ce-que ‘faire œuvre’ est un travail ? Dans la vie professionnelle de chaque artiste, ces questions se posent un jour ou l’autre, et chacun va choisir sa réponse ou va l’inventer. Ma réponse n’est pas claire, car — à part la question de la mort, la réalité de la mort qui fait partie de notre destin — rien n’est clair dans la vie ou dans l’art. La mythologie personnelle est en quelque sorte le chemin tortueux et incertain que j’ai choisi pour aller à la rencontre de mon idée que je me fais de cette thèse. Pour analyser les peintures présentes dans ce travail d’écriture, je mets en place une analyse des éléments de chaque image. Toutes les analyses se forment à partir de l’idée du ‘mythe personnel’. ; Understanding the words that are forming the lexicon of the art world is a necessity for the contemporary artist. Nevertheless, the meaning of each notion, of each concept, for the art practitioner, must remain personal. This is the position of a painter, a fluid position of the psyche of an image-maker and a (almost religious) practitioner of painting. It is formed mainly from these words : image, personal, myth, shaman, artist, word, aura, psychoanalysis. The personal myth being a story specific to the individual life of a speaking being, thus manifests the intimate aspect of an existence. It is the source of the artistic approach aiming at reproducing fragments of this mythology. This research takes, as the first figure of the artist, the shaman, and I propose to name him ‘artist-shaman’. In order to build the identity of the artist in a contemporary and mixed society, this research is oriented towards the spiritual characteristics of the shamanas well as towards the search for a meaning given to an individual spirituality. The main problematic of this thesis is formed from a question : Is the aura of a art work, particularly painting, the consequence of a myth-biographical approach ? This work establishes a reflection on creative action, subject to a personal mythology. The concept of myth in a personal imagery, as well as its link to the interior-exterior space - the world that surrounds it and the world that inhabits it, through which the artist identifies himself as such - together form the scheme of this work. With regard to the common characteristics between the place of the shaman and the place of the artist in a society, this thesis proposes the consideration of a myth-biographical element present in any artistic and creative process, an element that seeks to overcome the artist and transcend the speaking being. Personal mythology and the aura of the art work form the conceptual basis of this thesis. I therefore propose some questions: could personal myth be the only subject of the art work ? Is the contemporary artist an ‘approximate artist’ ? Who could be an artist-chaman ? This thesis is also built around the primary and material issues of the artist’s life. Where is the place of the artist in a contemporary society ? Is ‘making art’ a work ? In the professional life of each artist, these questions arise one day or another, and each one will choose his answer or will invent it. My answer is not yet clear, because - apart from the question of death, the reality of death being part of our destiny - nothing is clear in life or in art. Personal mythology is in a way the tortuous and uncertain path that I have chosen to go down to meet my idea ofthis thesis. In order to analyze the paintings present in this work, I set up an analysis of the elements of each image. All the analyses are formed from the idea of ‘personal myth’.
