La voluptuosidad en los alambiques: el uso de términos químicos en la obra Die Lehrlinge zu Sais de Novalis

Abstract:
Chemistry as a science was born in the second half of the 18th century, although some philosophers express their reservations about it by fixing the debate on apodictic certainty terms and rejecting, as insufficient, the empirical certainty that does not contain mathematical foundations. Kant and Schelling represent each of them respectively. But apart from theoretical considerations, the fascination that chemical experiments produce on that age scientists is such, that we can observe a transfer or loan of the terms which describe these experiences on other disciplines, such as literature. Most of the production of the preromantic German author Friedrich von Hardenberg, usually known as Novalis, represents a good example of scientific terminology used to produce analogies, comparisons and metaphors in his literary descriptions. Novalis scientific training as a mine engineer support his using such terminology ; La segunda mitad del siglo XVIII supone el nacimiento de la química como ciencia, a pesar de que algunos filósofos pongan en duda esta condición, al fijar el debate en términos de certeza apodíctica y rechazar, por insuficiente, la certeza empírica que adolece de fundamentos matemáticos. Kant y Schelling son representantes de estas dos posturas respectivamente. Sin embargo, al margen de consideraciones teóricas, la fascinación que los experimentos químicos produce en los científicos de la época es tal, que podemos observar un trasvase o préstamo de los términos con los que se describen estas experiencias en otras disciplinas, como la literatura. Gran parte de la producción literaria del autor prerromántico alemán Friedrich von Hardenberg, conocido con el pseudónimo de Novalis, representa una buena muestra de la utilización de terminología científica para producir analogías, comparaciones y metáforas en sus descripciones literarias. La formación académica de Novalis como ingeniero de minas le avala como buen conocedor de la química de la época y de otras muchas disciplinas
