Estas crianças mantêm baixo desempenho linguístico aos 48 meses, que pode prevalecer durante toda a idade pré-escolar (Hammer et al, 2017). Paralelamente, o desenvolvimento da sintaxe encontra-se abaixo do esperado, verificando-se um ritmo lento de aquisição (Singleton, 2018; Colisson et al., 2016). Considerando que a emergência tardia da linguagem pode ser um sinal de uma perturbação persistente, torna-se essencial atuação do terapeuta da fala em todas as áreas da linguagem, nomeadamente uma intervenção específica ao nível da sintaxe (Ebbels, 2008; Levy & Friedman, 2009). No entanto, não são conhecidos programas de iniciação à sintaxe nem estudos sobre os seus efeitos em crianças falantes tardios no português europeu. Objetivo: Desenvolver um Programa de Iniciação à Sintaxe, o INsyntax, e estudar a sua eficácia num grupo de crianças falantes tardios. Método: Nas duas primeiras fases da investigação, desenvolveu-se e validou-se o conteúdo do Programa INsyntax, que visa o desenvolvimento sintático de frases com estrutura Sujeito-Verbo-Objeto (SVO). Na terceira fase analisou-se a eficácia do INsyntax em 10 crianças identificadas como falantes tardios através de um estudo experimental e randomizado. Assim, as crianças (entre os 24 e os 31 meses) foram distribuídas de forma randomizada por dois grupos (grupo experimental com 5 crianças e grupo de controlo com 5 crianças). Foram realizadas 8 sessões individuais de intervenção com periodicidade semanal. As crianças foram avaliadas com Inventários de Desenvolvimento Comunicativo de MacArthur-Bates II (PT-IDC II) e três itens do Teste de Linguagem – Avaliação de Linguagem Pré-Escolar (TL-ALPE), antes e no final da intervenção. Resultados: Os resultados sugerem uma melhoria das competências sintáticas das crianças com a implementação do INsyntax. Apesar de o Programa incidir na componente sintática, constatou-se também a expansão de vocabulário das crianças com a implementação do Programa. Conclusão: Estes dados sugerem que o INsyntax é facilitador da aquisição da estrutura sintática SVO em crianças falantes tardios. Estudos futuros deverão incluir uma amostra alargada. ; Background: The prevalence of children identified as Late Talkers is high, reaching 15% (Singleton, 2018; Collisson et al., 2016). These children maintain poor linguistic performance at 48 months, which prevails throughout preschool age (Hammer et al, 2017). At the same time, the development of syntax is below expectations, with a slow pace of acquisition (Singleton, 2018; Colisson et al., 2016). Considering that the late language emergence can be a sign of a persistent disorder, it becomes essential the intervention of a speech therapist in all areas of language, namely a specific intervention at the level of syntax (Ebbels, 2008; Levy & Friedman, 2009). However, no syntax initiation programmes are known or studies on its effects on Late Talkers children in the Portuguese system. Aim: Develop a Syntax Initiation Program, INsyntax, and analyze its effectiveness in a group of Late Talkers children. Method: In the first two phases of the research, the content of the INsyntax program was developed and validated. The INsyntax aims syntactic development of sentences with Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) structure. The third phase consisted in analyzing the efficacy of INsyntax in 10 Late Talkers children, through a randomized controlled trial. Thus, the children (between 24 and 31 months) were randomly distributed in two groups (experimental group with 5 children and control group with 5 children). Eight individual intervention sessions were held on a weekly basis. The children were evaluated with the checklist MacArthur-Bates II and three items of the Teste de Linguagem – Avaliação de Linguagem Pré-Escolar (TL-ALPE), before the intervention and after its ending. Results: The results suggest an improvement in the children's syntax skills with the implementation of INsyntax. Although the program focuses on the syntactic component, it was also verified the expansion of children's vocabulary with the implementation of the program. Conclusion: These data indicate that INsyntax facilitates the acquisition of the SVO syntactic structure in Late Talkers children.
