Individualisierungs- und Globalisierungsprozesse zwingen junge Menschen zusätzlich, ihre (ethnischen) Identifikationen zu überdenken. Im vorliegenden Aufsatz wird anhand von drei biografischen Fallrekonstruktionen gezeigt, welche Rolle das ethnische Selbstverständnis in Lebenswelten und Selbstdarstellungen von jungen Sloweninnen und Slowenen im zweisprachigen Südkärnten einnehmen kann. Die Beispiele zeigen anschaulich, dass sich jene jungen Menschen, die in slowenischen und/oder zweisprachigen Schulen, Familien sowie kulturellen Organisationen verwurzelt sind, nach wie vor stark mit der ethnischen Herkunft identifizieren. Hingegen gibt es bei Intermarriage (Ehen oder Partnerschaften zwischen Personen unterschiedlicher ethnischer Zugehörigkeit) sowie dem Leben im deutschsprachigen Umfeld deutliche Brüche, die sich in Ambivalenzen, Distanzierungen und Loyalitätskonflikten manifestieren. ; Demographic and socioeconomic data show that the youth of small ethnic groups, such as the Slovenes in Southern Carinthia (Austria), are threatened: Their ethnic survival is affected by migration processes, declining birth rates, increasing numbers of the elderly, shifting of identification through intermarriage, and the declining use of the indigenous languages. Moreover, through processes of globalization and individualization the younger generation has to redefine its identification. In this article I will present the qualitative, biographic approach of my research work: On the basis of selected case reconstructions I will demonstrate how three young Slovenes in Southern Carinthia identify and locate themselves in their respective ethnic group and how important—under circumstances of globalization processes—their ethnic identification is. Whereas young people who are well integrated in Slovene schools, families, and cultural organizations still feel deeply rooted in their ethnic group, those living in ethnic mixed families or in German speaking environments with biographical breaks, show distance, ambivalence, and various affiliation-conflicts, but with a feeling of belonging to their Slovene ethnic roots. ; Los datos demográficos y socioeconómicos muestran que la juventud de grupos étnicos pequeños, tales como los eslovacos en Carintia del Sur (Austria), está amenazada: Su supervivencia étnica se ve afectada por los procesos de migración, la disminución en la tasa de natalidad, el aumento en el número de ancianos, el cambio de identificación a través del matrimonio endogámico, y el decreciente uso de las lenguas indígenas. Por otra parte, a través de los procesos de globalización e individualización, la generación más joven tiene que redefinir su identificación. En este artículo presentaré el enfoque cualitativo y biográfico de mi trabajo de investigación: Con base en las reconstrucciones de los casos seleccionados, demostraré cómo tres jóvenes eslovacos en Carintia del Sur se identifican y colocan en su respectivo grupo étnico y qué tan importante – bajo circunstancias de procesos de globalización – es su identificación étnica. Mientras que la gente joven que está bien integrada en escuelas, familias y organizaciones culturales eslovacas aún se siente profundamente arraigada en su grupo étnico, aquellos que viven en familias con mezclas étnicas o en entornos de habla alemana con fracturas biográficas, muestran distancia, ambivalencia, y diversos conflictos de afiliación, pero con una sensación de pertenecer a sus raíces étnicas eslovacas.
