Impacto das práticas de literacia familiar e do temperamento no desenvolvimento linguístico ; Impact of family literacy practices and temperament on linguistic development
; The family literacy practices and temperament seems to influence the linguistic development. The main objective of this study was evaluate to what extent the family literacy practices and temperament of the children are predictors of linguistic development, namely in the dimensions of vocabulary and syntactic complexity on the expressive side and on a composite of expressive and receptive language. The sample of this study consisted of 23 children aged between 36 and 48 months. Were applied the Marcarthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories III – European Portuguese version, the Griffiths Mental Development Scale – Extended Revised, the Questionnaire on Practices and Literacy Habits and the Children’s Behavior Questionnaire. The results indicated that, once controlled the children age effects, the family literacy practices and dimension of temperament, effortful control, are predictors of vocabulary and the syntactic complexity. The dimensions of temperament as well as family literacy practices do not predict the expressive and receptive language measure. So, the family literacy practices and certain dimensions of temperament seem to foment the linguistic development of the child, whose mother tongue is European Portuguese.
