; Reading comprehension is a complex process influenced by different variables. Previous studies allowed us to conclude that listening comprehension, reading fluency, vocabulary and working memory are predictors of reading comprehension. This study aims to explore the extent to which these variables are predictors of reading comprehension in portuguese 3rd grade students. 90 students were evaluated using the Reading Fluency and Accuracy Assessment Test, Test of Listening Comprehension of Narrative Texts and Test of Reading Comprehension of Narrative Texts. The Vocabulary and Digit Span subtests from Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children were also applied. All variables, with the exception of working memory, had significant correlation coefficients with reading comprehension. It was possible to conclude with the results of multiple linear regression that only listening comprehension and reading fluency were significant predictors of reading comprehension. These results are discussed taking into account the literature review.
