Abstract:
Chapitre d'ouvrage, colloque international avec actes ; International audience ; There are a few studies about the voice of bilingual subjects, especially in French: does their voices change from their mother tongue to another language? To answer this question, a questionnaire was proposed to 312 bilingual subjects, to assess: i) their felt vocal change between languages ii) their language profile. Some measurements of fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer and harmonic to noise ratio (HNR) for two Arabic and Chinese bilingual populations complete these feelings, from which implications for speech therapy rehabilitation of bilingual dysphonic subjects are proposed. Concerning the questionnaire: 1) a moderate change from one language to another is felt by the majority of bilingual subjects (fundamental frequency, intensity, timbre, personality, speech rate, intonation, articulation, and expressive gestures, cognition and thinking); 2) 23% of the subjects perceived a broken and tired voice with pain when using the "second language", 3) one third of the subjects felt an articulatory abuse during the use of the "L2", 4) to identify linguistic profile and to correlate it with felt voice changes is difficult. Measurements show voice changes: 1) for Arabic subjects: i) French is lower than Arabic (reading), ii) no significant crosslinguistic difference for jitter, shimmer and HNR were found, iii) a low feeling of vocal differences; 2) for Mandarin subjects: i) French is higher than Mandarin (reading) and for bilinguals compared to monolinguals for the same items; ii) higher values of jitter and shimmer, and lower values of HNR for bilinguals compared to monolinguals. Then it's essential for an adapted voice therapy to assess, rehabilitate the voice in all languages used by bilingual subject, and know their linguistic profile. ; Rares sont les études consacrées à la voix des bilingues, surtout en français : leur voix change-t-elle de leur langue maternelle à l'autre langue ? Afin de répondre à cette question, un questionnaire a été soumis à 312 bilingues, pour évaluer : i) leur ressenti vocal interlangue ii) leur profil linguistique. Quelques mesures de fréquence fondamentale, jitter, shimmer et rapport harmonique sur bruit (HNR) chez deux populations bilingues arabophone et sinophone complètent ces ressentis, à partir desquels les implications orthophoniques pour la rééducation des dysphoniques bilingues sont proposées. Concernant le questionnaire : 1) un changement modéré d'une langue à l'autre est ressenti par la majorité des bilingues (fréquence fondamentale, intensité, timbre, personnalité, débit, intonation, articulation, expressivité et gestes, cognition et pensée) ; 2) 23% des bilingues perçoit une voix cassée, fatiguée, forcée avec douleurs lors de l'emploi de la " deuxième langue " ; 3) un tiers des sujets ressent un forçage articulatoire à l'usage de cette " L2 " ; 4) cerner le profil linguistique précis des sujets et le corréler aux changements vocaux ressentis, est difficile. Les mesures de changements vocaux montrent : 1) pour les arabophones : i) le français plus grave que l'arabe (lecture) ; ii) une absence de différence interlangue significative des jitter, shimmer et HNR ; iii) un faible ressenti de différences vocales ; 2) pour les sinophones (Mandarin) : i) le français plus aigu que le chinois mandarin (lecture) et chez les bilingues par rapport aux monolingues aux mêmes épreuves ; ii) des jitter et shimmer plus élevés, et un HNR plus bas chez les bilingues comparés aux monolingues. Evaluer, rééduquer la voix dans toutes les langues utilisées par les bilingues, et connaître leur profil linguistique, est fondamental pour leur prise en charge orthophonique adaptée.
