Abstract: The present study has taken motivation, one of the key factors that influence the process and outcome of second and foreign language learning, as the focus. On the basis of analyzing different distinctions of motivation, an empirical research has been made, with the main findings that most of the present non-English-major university students are instrumentally motivated, and students from Science Department are a little more motivated than students from Arts Department. Through the research, it is expected to bring some enlightenment to the present college English language teaching.
