Abstract:
Schriftsprachliche Kompetenzen ermöglichen Gehörlosen barrierefreien Zugang zu Information und sichern ihre Teilnahme am Wissenstransfer sowie eine adäquate Partizipation an der hörenden Mehrheitsgesellschaft ab. In Österreich weisen Befragungen und Testergebnisse Gehörloser jedoch darauf hin, dass diese Kompetenzen innerhalb des schulischen Systems nicht soweit ausgebildet wurden, um als ausreichend für die Teilhabe an der lautsprachlich orientierten Gesellschaft eingeschätzt zu werden. Die Arbeit versucht daher, den sprachlichen Zugang Gehörloser zum Deutschen bzw. zur österreichischen Gebärdensprache im Sinne von Herkunft, Kompetenz, Funktion und innerer bzw. äußerer Identifikation zu klären und ihre Auswirkungen auf den Unterricht zu beschreiben. Annahme der Arbeit ist es, dass Deutsch, im Sinne einer Lese- und Schriftsprache, gehörlosen Lernenden auf eine andere Art und Weise vermittelt werden muss, als dies bei erstprachlichen LernerInnen der Fall ist, und diese, im weitersten Sinne, mit Deutsch als Zweitsprache LernerInnen vergleichbar sind. Erkenntnisse der Deutsch als Zweitsprache Forschung werden im zweiten Teil in Bezug auf Lesesozialisation bzw. der Förderung der Lesemotivation, unter Einbezug der derzeitigen Bildungssituation Gehörloser in Österreich, auf die gehörlose LernerInnengruppe umgelegt. Eine erfolgreiche Teilhabe der Minorität an der Mehrheitsgesellschaft setzt voraus, Lesekompetenz nicht nur als science literacy zu verstehen, sondern die Ausbildung von dauerhafter Lesemotivation über den Einsatz literarischer (mehrsprachiger) Texte zu fördern. ; Competency in reading and writing not only enables the deaf to have barrier-free access to information, but it also guarantees participation in knowledge transfer as well as access to the hearing majority of a society. In Austria, tests and opinion polls show that these competencies, namely writing and reading, to a high degree stay underdeveloped in deaf people in the Austrian school system. It then becomes a challenge to participate in a largely sound- and speech-based society. This thesis therefore tries to shed light on the matter of linguistic access of deaf people to German and Austrian sign language, by explaining the origin of the speaker, their competency in the sign language and German, the function of such a language and the internal and external identification process influencing the educational efforts. Further, this thesis assumes that German, as a reading and written language, should be taught differently to deaf learners rather than with the same methodology used in first-language teaching. These said educational efforts, it is also claimed, can, to a certain extent, therefore be compared to the methodology used in teaching German as a Second Language. By analogy, the deaf learners are then comparable to learners of German as a Second Language. To strengthen these assumptions, consolidated findings of German-as-a-Second-Language-research will be given, in order to show how the promotion of reading skills and reading motivation influence the deaf learners as well as Second Language learners. This is done by incorporating the educational status-quo of deaf learners in Austria. An inclusive society requires that reading competency should not only be understood as science literacy but should also promote reading motivation by introducing (multilingual) literary texts on a permanent basis. This is one example of how the participation of the Deaf Community can be guaranteed in society.
