This learning module will allow students to experience the coral reefs from the classroom, through the 360 virtual reality experience. They will be able to explore the reefs and learn about why they are important for our future. This module has been designed and created with the Cognitive Learning Theory for the purpose of maximizing students ability to learn and comprehend new material. With the inclusion of the 360-degree videos, interactive hotspots, and the use of mixed media through a virtual tour software (3DVista), the lessons throughout the module are broken up and spaced out and therefore less likely to cognitively overload students. By utilizing both types of working memory including, visuospatial information and phonological information, we can maximize the working memory capacity and have a greater chance of information moving to long term memory. This work will not only be used in the classroom but also will be widely disseminated both in English and Spanish as Open Educational Resources and available through a webpage and a mobile app, thus guaranteeing maximum accessibility.
