Dans cette perspective, il analyse et discute les méthodes traditionnellement utilisées pour étudier les besoins réels et les motivations des utilisateurs finaux en défendant le point de vue suivant : nous devons absolument étudier les besoins réels et les véritables comportements des utilisateurs en combinant des études empiriques à des études expérimentales. Si au début des études sur les comportements des utilisateurs, la phrase «Si nous construisons, ils viendront» était le leitmotiv des chercheurs et développeurs des DL, il est aujourd’hui nécessaire de mieux comprendre les besoins et les comportements des usagers si nous voulons créer des bibliothèques pertinentes, utiles et utilisables pour ces mêmes utilisateurs. ; This survey is a study of the actual behaviours of Digital Libraries (DL) end-users and their main difficulties to interact with them. Methodologies to assess end-users’ needs and aims are analyzed and discussed. The favoured approach values investigation of the real needs and behaviours of the end-users through empirical and experimental studies. The once leitmotiv of the researchers used to be “if we build it, they will come”. This approach has evolved towards understanding and comprehending end-users’ real needs and behaviours in order to create Digital Libraries which are both relevant, useful and usable. ; Resumen El presente artículo se acerca a los comportamientos reales de los usuarios que interactúan con bibliotecas digitales (“Digital libraries”, o DL) y analiza sus principales dificultades. Desde esta óptica, se analizan y discuten los métodos tradicionalmente utilizados para estudiar las necesidades reales y las motivaciones de los usuarios finales, defendiendo en particular el siguiente punto de vista : se debe imperativamente estudiar las necesidades reales y los verdaderos comportamientos de los usuarios, combinando así estudios empíricos y estudios experimentales. Si en los inicios de los estudios sobre los comportamientos de los usuarios, la frase “si nosotros construimos, ellos vendrán” era el leitmotiv de investigadores y programadores de DL, hoy en día es indispensable una mejor comprensión de las necesidades y comportamientos de los usuarios si se pretende crear bibliotecas pertinentes, útiles y utilizables para los usuarios mismos.
