Abstract: The main issue of the present thesis is concentrated upon the computer assisted language testing, the technology’s affordances in testing and assessment in second language acquisition and especially in language for specific purposes. In particular, there will be a thorough description of technology’s emergence in the field of testing and assessment in contrast to paper based testing as well as the qualities that are covered in each case. Furthermore, as not all tests are the same, the main kinds of tests will be analyzed, especially those in computerized format. Finally, there will be a description based on certain criteria of the most known computer based tests globally for specific purposes such as TOEFL iBT®, GMAT and GRE. ... : Ο κύριο θέμα της εργασίας επικεντρώνεται στη χρήση της τεχνολογίας στη γλωσσική αξιολόγηση μέσω των ηλεκτρονικών τεστ καθώς και τα τεχνολογικά εργαλεία που χρησιμοποιούνται στην αξιολόγηση για την απόκτηση της δεύτερης ξένης γλώσσας και ειδικά στα τεστ για ειδικούς σκοπούς. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, έμφαση θα δοθεί στην εμφάνιση των νέων τεχνολογιών στο τομέα των τεστ και της αξιολόγησης συγκριτικά με τα γραπτά τεστ καθώς και με τις γλωσσικές ιδιότητες οι οποίες καλύπτονται σε κάθε περίπτωση. Επιπλέον, ιδιαίτερη σημασία θα δοθεί στην κατηγοριοποίηση και περιγραφή των διαφορετικών ειδών τεστ βάσει συγκεκριμένων κριτηρίων και ειδικά για τα τεστ τα οποία έχουν δημιουργηθεί σε ηλεκτρονική μορφή. Τέλος, θα υπάρξει μια αναλυτική και συγκριτική περιγραφή με μερικά από τα γνωστά τεστ για ειδικούς σκοπούς παγκοσμίως όπως το TOEFL iBT®, GMAT και GRE σύμφωνα με μια λίστα κριτηρίων. ...
