Kommunikationsstrategien mehrsprachiger Schülerinnen und Schüler beim Stationenlernen im Biologieunterricht
Abstract:
; The concepts of integrated language education (Gogolin & Lange 2011) and repertoire view (Dirim & Heinemann 2016) show that the discourse on common subject and language learning in classes must be extended to all pupils. Multilingualism is an all-social phenomenon. Academic language mediates between everyday life and science; between everyday language and terminology, as well as everyday ideas and scientific concepts (Drumm 2016). For biology lessons, the concept of integrated language education can be propagated by the principles of language-sensitive teaching (Drumm 2016, Pineker-Fischer 2017, Gebhard et al: 2017). This case study deals with the used communication strategies (according to Færch & Kasper 1983) of the students in learning stations and the resulting linguistic challenges. The data material includes the transcripts of the participant observation, memory protocols and worksheets of the observed students. The analysis is done by Qualitative Content Analysis (Mayring 2015) and Key Incident-Analysis (Kroon and Sturm 2000). The analyzed key-incidents reveal in reference to the biology-/didactic theories the need to deal with classroom communication and its requirements. Discussing communication strategies is contemporary a consideration of learners' existing language knowledge and awareness, and must be seen as an opportunity to support the acquisition of additional language registries through successful learning strategies and principles of appropriation (Méron-Minuth 2009). It turned out, students mostly resorted to active compensation strategies, because of technical terminology and linguistic requirements for glossary in biology, language actions, everyday language and academic terms and their transmission, and polysemic meanings.
