Abstract:
Lebensläufe und biographische Konstruktionen sind immer in soziale Differenz- und Machtverhältnisse eingebettet, die sich zwar in langfristigen Prozessen festschreiben, aber immer wieder situativ aktualisiert werden. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist eine Forschungsperspektive, die sowohl situative als auch biographische Aspekte eines Phänomens berücksichtigt, für eine ungleichheitstheoretisch informierte Forschung gewinnbringend. Mit einem ethnographisch-biographischen Untersuchungsansatz können sowohl praktische Vollzüge mit ihrer Kontextbezogenheit als auch die biographische Erfahrungsaufschichtung, die konkrete Situationen rahmt, in den Blick genommen werden. Auf der Grundlage beiden inhärenter impliziter Wissensbestände kann methodologisch begründet die Verknüpfung der beiden Ansätze erfolgen. Dies wird am Beispiel einer Studie ausgeführt, die für den Kontext einer bilingualen Schulklasse an der sogenannten „Sprachgrenze“ in der Schweiz danach fragt, wie die Akteurinnen und Akteure in ihrem mehrsprachigen Sprechen, aber auch im Sprechen über Mehrsprachigkeit Zugehörigkeiten und Differenzen markieren, bearbeiten und situativ aktualisieren. Mehrsprachigkeit wird dabei als soziale Praxis konzipiert, über die zugleich Identitäten und Zugehörigkeiten sowie Differenzen und Ausschlüsse hervorgebracht und verhandelt werden. ; Life cycles and biographic constructions are always embedded in relations of social difference and power, which are indeed established in long-term processes, yet have to be articulated situatively over and over again. Given that fact a research perspective, which is able to observe situative as well as biographical aspects of a phenomenon, proves to be gainful regarding research that is concerned with theories of social inequality. With an ethno-biographical approach, practical implementations with their context referentiality as well as the biographic layering of experiences, which are framing these, can be taken into account. The combination of the two perspectives can be methodologically conducted on the basis of implicit knowledge to be reconstructed in both of them. These factors are discussed based on an exemplary study dealing with the specific context of a bilingual school class at the so called "language border" in Switzerland. The study looks at how speakers assign, process, and articulate situatively both, a sense of belonging and of difference, in their multilingual language practices, but also in their talking about multilingualism. Thereby, multilingualism is conceived as social practice, on whose behalf identities and a sense of belonging as well as differences and instances of exclusion are brought about and dealt with.
