Abstract:
National audience ; This paper deals with the notion of saliency in pseudo-cleft sentences (CWh: What we want is peace) and reverse clefts starting with that/this (CThat: That's what we want) in (semi)-spontaneous speech. We study the respective roles of syntax and prosody in the expression of saliency. We show that, if syntax expresses focalisation in CWh, prosody can increase saliency (on the clefted constituent or the wh-clause) or remain neutral. We show that CThat, as prosody partly indicates, are not truly " reverse clefts ". That is not focalised but only topicalised. But prosody can also play a part at a different level to indicate a different type of saliency: emphasis or contrast (in the clefted constituent or in the wh-clause). ; Nous traitons ici de la notion de saillance dans les clivées en wh- (CWh : what we want is peace) et les clivées renversées en that / this (CThat : that's what we want) en anglais contemporain en parole spontanée ou semi-spontanée. Notre question principale est de savoir quelles sont les interrelations entre syntaxe et prosodie dans l'expression de la saillance. Nous montrons que, si la syntaxe est focalisante dans les CWh, la prosodie peut parfois aller dans le sens de la syntaxe pour augmenter la focalisation (sur l'élément clivé ou sur la proposition en whet et parfois rester neutre. Quant aux CThat, nous montrons que, comme l'indique en partie la prosodie, ce ne sont pas réellement des clivées renversées, et que that n'est pas focalisé, mais uniquement thématisé. Mais la prosodie peut également agir à un niveau différent pour marquer un autre type de saillance : l'emphase ou le contraste sur l'élément clivé et/ou la proposition en wh- .
