El exilio de Gardel an und versucht darzulegen, welche Handlungsmöglichkeiten einerseits der Film in seiner Funktion als Kommunikationsmedium bietet, anderseits welche gesellschaftlichen Partizipationsgelegenheiten sich für die Exilierten darin ergeben bzw. welche politischen Forderungen sie stellen. Ausgehend von der ursprünglichen Funktion des Tangos als Ausdrucksmittel marginalisierter Gruppen, der später ein essentieller Bestandteil der argentinischen Filmproduktion werden sollte, wird gezeigt, wie kollektive Narrative und Erinnerungen schließlich auch die Wahrnehmung des Exils beeinflussen. Die Arbeit will erörtern, wie Solanas die Sprache der Kamera nutzt, um eben diese Narrative aufzubrechen und versucht durch die Darstellung der räumlichen sowie auch der zeitlichen Dimension des Exils potentielle neue Handlungsräume zu schaffen. Hierfür bedarf es jedoch das Überschreiten von Grenzen, die Solanas als Regisseur schon durch das Vermischen von Genres, Stilrichtungen und künstlerischen Strömungen verschwimmen lässt. Dies kann als Vorstufe des Widerstandes gelesen werden, welchen die Exilierten durch ihre Tanzperformances leisten. Denn durch das ständige Scheitern von Übersetzungen im Exilland und die restriktiven Maßnahmen im Herkunftsland werden ihnen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten auf der verbalisierten Sprachebene verweigert und sie müssen durch die Inszenierung ihres Körpers versuchen ihre eigene Identität zu bestimmen, um folglich auch Widerstand leisten zu können. ; The diploma thesis examines the controversial representation of exile in Fernando Solanas’ movie Tangos. El exilio de Gardel. It aims to explain the possibilities of action the picture offers concerning its function as a medium of communication. Furthermore, forms of political participation and exiled people’s access to it will be analysed. Starting from the original significance of tango music for marginalized groups in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, I will then try to explain how tango became a major instrument in the evolution of the collective memory. Since tango is also an essential part of Argentinian film tradition, the reference to its music enables to explain how collective narratives affected the representation of exile in post dictatorship cinema. Therefore time and space need to be defined as determining dimensions of exile that potentially create new possibilities of political agency for the isolated exile community. Through the language of the camera, Solanas focuses on the dimensions of time and space and consequently demands to exceed limits / borders. By mixing different genres, styles and traditions he shows how the formerly established borders can be easily blurred and, with this in mind, how resistance can be realized. Nonetheless, the exiled people have to find other alternatives and ways of resistance due to a constant failure of translation. To define their own identity, which can be achieved through the use of language, they have to find a way of expression that goes beyond the usual verbalized level of language. Through the performance of their own bodies they can now rule about their own identity and consequently take part in political resistance.
