	Abstract: En este artículo, la autora señala que el racismo es resultado de representaciones ideológicas. La idea de que existen diferencias biológicas entre los seres humanos corresponde a condiciones de tipo histórico, social, cultural y político, y se ha traducido en prácticas determinadas, orientadas a eliminar lo heterogéneo y diferente (por ejemplo, el minusválido, la mujer, el judío, el indio, el negro, el hispano, el homosexual, etcétera), como símbolos de un "desorden" percibido como amenazante. Tras todo planteamiento racista está presente la exclusión del otro, la cual puede ser ejercida por el sujeto y por el Estado. Dada la dialéctica entre lo individual y lo colectivo, el Estado puede alentar el racismo o, por el contrario, contribuir a la tolerancia y a la solidaridad. Esto último debe prevalecer en la educación, propone la autora. El concepto de "tolerancia" opera en contra del racismo y en el reconocimiento de la historia e identidad de las minorías. Para ello existen múltiples propuestas conceptuales y pedagógicas que permiten abordar una práctica educativa para enfrentar al racismo y luchar, así, por la justicia e igualdad: el reconocimiento del otro, el combate a toda conducta opresiva y la comprensión de que el racismo favorece otros patrones de discriminación. ; The author contends that racism arises from ideological representation wherein the idea of biological differences between human beings responds to historical, social, cultural and political conditions that have developed into specific practices. These practices seek to eliminate whomever are heterogenous and different, perceived as symbols of a threatening "disorder" (i e., the physically disabled, women, jews, native indians, black people, hispanics, homoxesuals, etc.). The exclusion of the dissimilar, which underlies all racist stands, can lx* an act of individuals but also of the State. Given the dialectics between the individual and the collectivity, the State is in a position to either entice racism or promote tolerance and solidarity. The latter should prevail in education, proposes the author. To oppose racism by fostering the concept of "tolerance" and recognizing the history and identity of minority groups. There arc various conceptual and pedagogical proposals for education practices that fac e up to racism, in the pursuit of justice and equality: acknowledging those who are dissimilar, challenging opressive behavior, understanding that racism promotes other types of discrimination.
