Abstract:
International audience ; Following an almost century-long hegemony of the Egyptian dialect in Arabic cinematography and television, the rising scene of dialectical expression lies with the satellite channels, the more popular ones in particular, where almost the entire dialectical range finds expression. From Lebanese to Bahraini, through Syrian or Kuwaiti, satellite television offers Arab viewers a wide range of dialects and enables them to develop an awareness for the linguistic variety that characterises the Arab region. This idyllic picture must be tempered with the increasing hegemony of certain Mashreq dialects. These, and Levant dialects in particular, dethrone Egyptian and share the linguistic space of the more familiar channels, thereby confining Maghreb dialects to their national media boundaries. What are the whys and wherefores of this situation, which is detrimental to some Arab dialects? The elements needed to analyze this unusual situation can be found in the relations between the Maghreb and the Mashreq, in the landscape of the Arab satellite channels, and finally, in the characteristics of specific dialects. ; Après l’hégémonie du dialecte égyptien sur la scène cinématographique et télévisuelle arabe pendant environ un siècle, les chaînes satellitaires, notamment les plus regardées, deviennent la scène de l’expression dialectale dans presque toute sa diversité. Du libanais au bahreïni, en passant par le syrien ou le koweïtien, la télévision satellitaire offre au spectateur arabophone une large palette de dialectes et lui permet de prendre conscience de la grande variété linguistique qui caractérise l’aire géographique arabe.Ce tableau idyllique doit toutefois être nuancé par la place hégémonique croissante qu’occupent certains dialectes du Mashreq. En effet, ces derniers, notamment ceux du Levant, détrônent l’égyptien et se partagent l’espace linguistique des chaînes satellitaires les plus connues, cantonnant de fait les dialectes maghrébins dans leurs frontières médiatiques nationales. Quels sont les tenants et les aboutissants de cette situation préjudiciable à certains dialectes arabes ? Des éléments d’analyse permettant d’interpréter cette situation insolite se trouvent à la fois dans le rapport Maghreb/Mashreq, dans le paysage satellitaire arabophone, et enfin dans les spécificités de certains dialectes.
