; This research has its origins from the concern to propose a new methodology to put in practice in the L2 classrooms in order to facilitate and enhance the learner development and capacity, the success of his/her speaking skill. In that sense, several models of language production were analyzed found in the psycholinguistic literature from the 70’s (Fromkin 1971, Garrett 1975) to the latest models described till late 90’s (Levelt 1989, 1999). Other theoretical foundations were also taken into account for this research, such as learning strategies (Oxford 1990, O’Malley & Chamot 1990, Cohen 1998, 2002), communication strategies (Faerch & Kasper 1980; Tarone 1977,1981; and Dörnyei 1995), learning styles (Cohen, Oxford & Chi 2002) and the intercultural aspect in L2 learning (Zarate 1981). Therefore, this study analyzes first the problems and difficulties of a group of students when speaking and the selection of their learning strategies, communication strategies and intercultural strategies employed before, during and after their oral production, and using French as a foreign language. The group of students fulfilled two types of surveys, the first one, design by the author of this research, about learning strategies used for speaking; and the second one, about learning styles, designed by Oxford, Cohen and Chi (2002). The results shown in both instruments allowed the author to design a proposal about a new learning model for speaking L2, called Strategic Learning Model for Speaking (MAESPRO, for its abbreviation in Spanish), based on the models of language production and the learning strategies employed only for speaking.
