Abstract:
This study presents a description of verb morphology in Pahari. This work is an attempt to analyze the morpho-phonemic properties that help in the realisation of the verb forms in Pahari. The analysis is based on corpus-data collected from Pahari speakers living in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The analysis indicates that the verb forms in Phari are regular and inflect for tense, aspect, mood, number, and gender. Most of the verbal roots in Pahari are intransitive. Many transitive verbs are derived from the Intransitive verb root through the processes of affixation and vowel modification. Causative verbs in Pahari can be derived from transitive and intransitive verbs by applying suffixation and vowel modification. The formation of indirect causative from intransitive verbal roots is a two-step process. First, the direct causatives are formed from the intransitive verbal root, and then the indirect causative verbs are formed from these direct causative verbal roots simply by adding the suffix /aː/.In Pahari, the ...
