The multimodality in Libras dictionaries: theoretical and applied reflections ; A multimodalidade em dicionários de Libras: reflexões teóricas e aplicadas
In: Revista GTLex; v. 7 (2021): Volume 7 ; 2447-9551 (2022)
Abstract: In this work, we discuss the importance of multimodality in Brazilian Sign Language dictionaries (Libras), based on the analysis of two dictionaries: the trilingual Encyclopedic Illustrated Dictionary Deit-Libras, by Capovilla, Raphael and Maurício (2009); and Dictionary of Brazilian Sign Language: Libras in your hands, produced by Capovilla, Raphael, Temoteo and Martins (2019). Our purpose is to understand how multimodality interferes with the information that composes the entries of the selected dictionaries. We are based on theoretical and methodological assumptions of Lexicography, which allowed us to perceive the multisemiotic potential present in these dictionaries and, above all, to recognize them as cultural heritage of their consultants, as well as a contextual variable of Systemic-Functional Linguistics Mode, under which supports multimodality. Our analyzes indicate that, in addition to enriching the lexicographical information addressed in the dictionary structure, multimodality works as a mechanism for didactic organization of possible records in dictionaries.
