Metáfora conceptual y manipulación en el tratamiento periodístico de la pandemia

Abstract:
Este trabajo tiene como objeto de estudio el análisis de las metáforas conceptuales creadas en torno a la pandemia de la COVID-19 en los editoriales de dos periódicos españoles de tirada nacional y de ideologías opuestas: ABC y El País. Con el fin de crear un soporte conceptual para la investigación empírica propuesta, se ha construido un capítulo teórico en el que se delimitan conceptos esenciales como la noción de metáfora conceptual, nacida en el ámbito de la lingüística cognitiva, el concepto de manipulación y los rasgos definitorios del lenguaje periodístico. A partir de esta base teórica, se presenta una investigación empírica que analiza un corpus constituido por 23 expresiones metafóricas aparecidas en la versión digital de ambos periódicos durante el primer mes y medio de la crisis sanitaria en España. Dicho estudio ha permitido identificar los dominios conceptuales a los que recurren estos medios para conceptualizar, mediante proyecciones metafóricas, la pandemia y los elementos vinculados a ella. A su vez, este análisis ha permitido apreciar las diferencias y semejanzas que surgen en el tratamiento de la información según el medio y la corriente que lo defina. Al mismo tiempo, hemos observado diferencias ideológicas presentes en el ámbito periodístico español en el tratamiento de la información en un contexto social concreto y actual como es el de la pandemia del coronavirus. Si bien los resultados de este estudio muestran que existe una preferencia por este recurso y que se puede tratar con fines manipulativos, esta investigación, debido a su extensión, puede considerarse un primer acercamiento al análisis lingüístico de la pandemia. ; This project analyses the conceptual metaphors about the COVID-19 pandemic as published in the editorials of two of the main, ideologically-opposed national newspapers: ABC and El País. In order to create a conceptual support for the proposed empirical research, a theoretical chapter was included in which essential concepts are defined, including the notion of conceptual metaphor, born in the field of cognitive linguistics, the concept of manipulation, and the defining features of journalistic language. Empirical research was performed from this theoretical basis by analysing 23 metaphorical expressions which appeared in the digital versions of the newspapers during the first month and a half of the health crisis in Spain. This study allowed us to identify conceptual domains used by the media to conceptualise the pandemic and the elements linked to it through metaphoric projections. At the same time, this analysis shows the similarities and differences in the presentation of information according to the newspaper and its ideological bias. We have observed, in parallel, some ideological differences in the Spanish journalistic field related to the treatment of information in a specific and ongoingsocial context, such as the coronavirus pandemic. Although the results of this study show that there is a preference for conceptual metaphor and that it can be used with manipulative aims, this research could be considered a preliminary analysis of the linguistic portrayal of the ongoing pandemic.
