Our work centers on the analysis of narrations elicited from a group of five 7 to 12 year-old children with cochlear implant whose average hearing age is 7 years (M =7.18) and a group of five normal-hearing children of a similar hearing age (M = 6.98). We analysed the past tenses used to provide textual cohesion. The results obtained from the analysis reveal highly different narrative-linked language structure use by the two groups. Our study notes the conspicuous absence of past tenses in deaf children with cochlear implant, in contrast to the balance between present and past tenses in the normal-hearing children group. Our cautious conclusions from the limited data available is that the less developed nature of narrative skills in the CI group is a consequence of their perceptive, linguistic and interactive restrictions. Nevertheless, further studies are required to help us construct linguistic and pedagogical models that contribute to improving these children’s linguistic development ; En los últimos años el interés por el desarrollo de las habilidades narrativas de los niños con desarrollo neurotípico y atípico ha aumentado notablemente llegando a convertirse en un instrumento muy valioso para la evaluación y diagnóstico de déficits lingüísticos (Botting 2007). Nuestro trabajo se centra en el análisis del paradigma verbal empleado en narraciones elicitadas a un grupo de cinco niños sordos con implante coclear prelocutivo de 7 a 12 años, cuya edad auditiva media es de 7 años (M = 7.18) y un grupo de cinco niños normo-oyentes con edad auditiva similar (M = 6.98). Los resultados obtenidos tras el análisis muestran estructuras lingüísticas asociadas a la narración muy diferentes entre ambos grupos. A través de nuestro estudio observamos la notable ausencia de tiempos de pasado en los niños sordos con implante coclear, en contraposición con el equilibrio observado entre tiempos de presente y tiempos de pasado en el grupo de niños normo-oyentes. Consideramos con cautela, por la reducida muestra de datos, las conclusiones del presente trabajo las cuales ponen de manifiesto el menor desarrollo de habilidades narrativas en el IC como consecuencia de su limitación perceptiva, lingüística e interactiva. No obstante, se necesitan más estudios que ayuden a construir modelos lingüísticos y pedagógicos que contribuyan a mejorar el desarrollo lingüístico de estos niños.
