Abstract:
The aim of this master’s thesis is to provide a useful contribution to dialogue interpreting didactics. At present, the didactics in this field frequently follows the firm principle of neutrality and rigid turn taking patterns. Furthermore, the focus is on (the lack of) linguistic quality. Thus, dialogue interpreting classes provide little space for the targeted use of nonverbal communication and proxemics, for raising (professional) self-awareness and self-confidence, trying out different action alternatives, positioning between identification and distancing, creating one’s own solutions for translation and communicative issues or confronting the students with ethical questions. As the last-mentioned aspects are vital parts of community interpreters’ daily work, they deserve (far) more attention during training. In order to achieve this goal, the present thesis suggests an interdisciplinary approach: the fusion of theatre pedagogy and dialogue interpreting didactics. The “Theatre of the Oppressed” – ... : Die Zielsetzung der Masterarbeit besteht in einer sinnvollen Ergänzung der Dialogdolmetschdidaktik. Derzeit folgt diese oftmals starr dem Neutralitätsprinzip sowie bestimmten Regeln für Sprecher*innenwechsel und legt den Fokus vor allem auf (mangelnde) linguistische Qualität. Demgegenüber bietet sie wenig Raum für gezielten Einsatz von nonverbaler Kommunikation und Proxemik, (professionelle) Selbst-bewusst-Werdung, das Austesten von Handlungsspielräumen, die Positionierung zwischen Identifikation und Abgrenzung, die eigenständige Hervorbringung von Lösungsansätzen oder die (aktive) Auseinandersetzung mit ethischen Fragestellungen. Da letztgenannte Aspekte unerlässlich sind, um den Berufsalltag in den Bereichen des Community Interpreting zu bewältigen, gilt es ihnen in der Ausbildung mehr Bedeutung beizumessen.
