Der arabische Dialekt von Dēr iz-Zōr (Syrien)

Abstract:
; The present MA-thesis represents a contribution to the investigation of the Mesopotamian Arabic qǝltu-dialects. The main goal of this study is the description of the most important features of the dialect of the East Syrian city Dēr iz-Zōr by use of language material collected by me in the period between 2016 and 2019 in Vienna. Moreover, existing studies on this dialect are taken into consideration. The dialect of Dēr iz-Zōr has a distinct mixed character which is noticeable through the influences of the surrounding Šāwi-dialects as well as the major cities of Syria. The dialect of Dēr iz-Zōr differentiates from other dialects of the qǝltu-group of the Mesopotamian dialects by this mixed character. The results of the present study are for the most part consistent with those of the existing studies on the dialect of Dēr iz-Zōr.
