Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to explore the problems in email writing amongThai staff at a five-star hotel in Bangkok and find out how they solve the problems. Therespondents were 35 Thai staff members who were working in sales and marketingdepartments, guest services, front office department, and others who were supervisorsand middle management. A questionnaire was used as an instrument. Statistical analysisincluding frequency, percentage, standard deviation and mean score was conducted. Thefindings revealed that enquiries emails were the most frequent type of writing by thehotel staff. Choosing words with proper meaning was found to be the most problematic,followed by using a variety of sentence structures and writing emails without knowingthe proper process. In terms of the ways to solve the problems, most of the respondentshighly agreed that they solve the problem by themselves using Google, and checkinggrammar and spelling.
