Abstract:
International audience ; This article aims to analyze the discrepancy between linguistic facts and current systems of representation. Such systems are the product of a dominant and conservative ideology, which hardly takes into account the cognitive nature of linguistic competence and language acquisition, and reifies language, giving undue priority to writing, while French orthography is surprisingly dysfunctional. Moreover, the dominant ideology is ignorant aboutlinguistic variation and heterogeneity. Its negative impact on Creole-speaking children’s achievements is examined, with particular attention to the context of Reunion Island. ; Le but de cet article est l’analyse de l’écart entre les réalités linguistiques et les systèmes de représentation de ces réalités. Les systèmes de représentation en question sont le produit d’une idéologie dominante et conservatrice. Cette idéologie ne prend guère en compte le caractère cognitif de la compétence linguistique et de son acquisition ; elle réifie la langue en accordant une importance exagérée à l’écrit et à une orthographe bien peu fonctionnelle. Par ailleurs, elle ignore la variation et l’hétérogénéité qui sont inhérentes au langage. Les conséquences négatives au plan scolaire sont examinées, notamment sur le terrain créolophone de La Réunion.
