The influence of socioeconomic status on decisions of psychotherapists about treatment units ...
Schmidt, Anne. - : Open Science Framework, 2021
Abstract: Since previous research has shown that people from lower social class have higher prevalences of mental disorders than those from higher class, but are much less likely to find in outpatient therapy, the question arises whether a possible reason for this may be a corresponding selection by therapists in their decisions about the allocation of treatment units. In order to investigate this, we conduct an online study in which we consult certified psychotherapists from Berlin. These are asked to indicate the probability with which they would offer a treatment unit to the corresponding person for a series of case vignettes. In these case vignettes the socioeconomic status of patients is manipulated by the indication of the profession and the manner of linguistic expression. Besides the main effect of socioeconomic status on the probability of offering a treatment unit we likewise will test possible interactions with the following variables: gender of patient, mental disorder of patient, gender of therapist, ...
