A liderança no feminino em tradução : uma perspectiva cognitiva centrada em frames

Abstract:
O objetivo deste trabalho foi aplicar a semântica de frames, circunscrita no quadro teórico da Linguística Cognitiva, ao processo interpretativo da tradução de colocações e comparar os frames resultantes na língua de partida e de chegada – inglês e português, nas variantes brasileira e europeia. As colocações traduzidas foram extraídas de um corpus composto por três publicações (Babcock & Laschever, 2003; Miller & Miller, 2011; Sandberg & Scovell, 2013) sobre o papel social e a liderança feminina por recurso à ferramenta de análise de corpora SketchEngine (Lexical Computing Ltd.). A lista de colocações resultante deste processo, composta por 80 colocações, foi enquadrada em 31 frames – muitos já existentes na FrameNet, outros criados pela autora – que formaram o super_frame Female_leadership. Traduzimos as colocações com base na análise facilitada pela semântica de frames e recorrendo à teoria de Ernst-August Gutt (1991/2000), além da teoria das metáforas conceituais de George Lakoff (1993). As colocações que apresentaram maiores problemas de tradução foram comentadas consoante a sua natureza pragmático-cognitiva ou linguística. Em seguida, as enquadramos nos frames em português – aproveitando diversos frames encontrados na FrameNet Brasil –, que formaram o super_frame Liderança_no_feminino. Os frames em inglês e português foram ainda agrupados tematicamente como domínios conceituais mais gerais, e a sua comparação revelou algumas diferenças entre os frames da língua partida e de chegada; contudo, estas não se mostraram significativas na perspectiva mais ampla dos grupos temáticos. Consideramos que este trabalho demonstra a utilidade da semântica de frames para a análise semântica e tradução que vai além da FrameNet como repositório lexical e dos frames como unidades de tradução cultural, mas situando-os como um quadro organizador da estrutura semântico-conceitual que nos permite aplicar na tradução um conceito de equivalência alinhado aos construtos da Linguística Cognitiva. ; This paper aimed to use frame semantics, a theory of lexical semantics within the scope of Cognitive Linguistics, as a tool to interpret the conceptual foundation of the meaning of lexical units for translation purposes and to compare the resulting frames in the source and target languages – English and Brazilian/European Portuguese. We translated 80 collocations extracted from a selected corpus (Babcock & Laschever, 2003; Miller & Miller, 2011; Sandberg & Scovell, 2013) addressing the social roles of women and female leadership using a corpus analysis software, SketchEngine (Lexical Computing Ltd.). The resulting database was assigned to 31 frames – mostly found on FrameNet, but also created by the author – which composed a super_frame we named Female_leadership. The collocations were translated based on analysis mediated by frame semantics and according to the principle of relevance proposed by Ernst-August Gutt (1991/2000) and the theory of conceptual metaphor, by George Lakoff (1993). The translation process of collocations posing bigger translation problems was commented as per their nature – cognitive-pragmatic or linguistic. These collocations were then framed into 33 frames – many of which were found on FrameNet Brasil – that compose the super_frame named Liderança_no_feminino. The frames in English and Portuguese were also grouped in themes that represent more comprehensive conceptual domains. Comparison of the frames in Portuguese and English showed framing differences between languages; however, they were not significant from the perspective of the theme groups. We believe that this work shows the usefulness of frame semantics for lexical semantic analysis and translation beyond the use of FrameNet as a lexical repository or of frames as cultural translation units, but as a framework able to organize semantic and conceptual linguistic structure, allowing us to apply a concept of translation equivalence in line with Cognitive Linguistics.
