Abstract:
; Between 1988 and 2017, Paris Match has published a series of Ségolène Royal portraits whose paper magazine and/or website oriented editorial treatments inspire this analysis of how press images gain a second life online. A semiotic approach shows how Paris Match recreates a biographical narrative based on photographic storytelling procedures. As portraits migrate from the magazine to the website, several tensions seem to emerge about the purpose of this companionship in image. Both the limits of public/private life and the nature of staged/stolen photos seem to be blurred. This paper analyses how a media outlet and a political figure take advantage of such complex semiotic features.
