Comparative Studies on the Integration of Graphing Calculator in Mathematics Assessment in Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia
Abstract: The graphing calculator provides millions of students worldwide as well as in Malaysia, with useful and exciting experiences enhancing their mathematics learning with computer visualisations. This study comprised of two phases. The objective of Phase 1 was to compare the integration of the graphing calculator in mathematics assessment in Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. The objective of Phase 2 was to investigate the effectiveness of using performance assessment that incorporated use of the graphing calculator in the topics of Straight Line and Statistics on students’ achievement in these topics and their attitude towards mathematics. In addition, the second phase of this study aimed to elicit the teachers’ and the experimental group students’ perceptions about using performance assessment that incorporated the use of tjhe graphing calculator. To address these two objectives, both quantitative and qualitative research designs were employed.
