Abstract:
The Bilingual Education System Arrangement Grid combines two continuums to describe arrangements, or teacher practices, within a bilingual education system. The content–linguistic continuum distinguishes how a teacher emphasizes teaching academic content versus teaching about a language (e.g., mechanics, language structures, etc.). The continuum spans from being content driven, meaning a mostly exclusive focus on academic content, to linguistic driven, meaning mostly focused on language aspects (a foreign language class). The target–local continuum describes the balance of the target language with the local language. Target language dominant represents arrangements where the target language is almost exclusively used. Local language dominant describes a typical setting where instruction is mostly in the local language. ...
