Abstract:
; The volume“Textlinguistics: 15Introductions and a Discussion”, edited by Nina Janich, Professor of German Linguistics (TU Darmstadt, Germany), is the final product of a lecture series at the University of Darmstadt in 2006/2007. The book is primarily intended for students and offers an overview of the various approaches to textlinguistics. This is actually thesecond updated and extended edition. Compared to the first edition in 2008, a new chapterhas been added. Several chapters have been partially updated. The 16 chapters can be divided into four parts. The first part appeals to define basic orientations with two contributions: The concept of text is discussed, as is therelationship between text linguistics and discourse linguistics. The second partaims to provide insights into various scientific approaches. The third part “Text production and text reception”contains six contributions in which the respective authors examine the concept of text, orally or in writing, andin connection with the communication participants. The last part deals with relatively new approaches to text linguistics, such as hypertext linguistics or computational linguistics, which have emerged because of the development of new technologies. The book isa kind of anthology that is particularly recommended for students. The different approaches that are explainedmay be sometimes redundant or show differencesbetween the authorsbut theyare part ofthe history of text linguistics. One of the great achievements of this volume is without a doubtthat it builds bridges between the theories of the last forty years and the new research questions.
