Que espaço a legendista ocupa? : um estudo sobre estilo do tradutor

Dissertação (mestrado)—Universidade de Brasília, Instituto de Letras, Departamento de Línguas Estrangeiras e Tradução, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução, 2018. ; Os estudos em estilo do tradutor são bastante recentes e procuram compreender como a impressão digital do tradutor se materializa no texto traduzido (BAKER, 2000; MUNDAY, 2008; SALDANHA, 2011a; 2011b). Diante dessa premissa, esta dissertação objetiva mostrar como o estilo da legendista profissional Talita Ribeiro se caracteriza, apresentando a forma que ela emprega a colocação pronominal e marcadores discursivos (MDs) nas legendas de alguns episódios de Star Trek: Enterprise e discutindo as implicações desses hábitos linguísticos no contexto tradutório, em comparação com o trabalho feito por outros legendistas. Para tanto, afiliando-se aos Estudos da Tradução Baseados em Corpus (BAKER, 1993; 1995; 1996; 1999; 2000; 2004; BERBER SARDINHA, 2004; 2009; McENERY; WILSON, 2001; SALDANHA, 2011a; 2011b; TOGNINI-BONELLI, 2001), esta investigação faz uso do WordSmith Tools©, versão 7, para detectar alguns pronomes e MDs e observar seus usos em contexto nos corpora desta pesquisa. Aqui, o corpus de estudo é formado por arquivos de legendas disponíveis na Netflix, em português brasileiro, dos episódios 10 e 11 (temporada 1) e 16 e 24 (temporada 2) da série mencionada, enquanto que o corpus de referência é composto por outros arquivos de legendas das mesmas temporadas da série e foram feitos por outros legendistas. Tendo investigado o uso da colocação pronominal e de MDs nas legendas, a pesquisa comprova, por um lado, que Talita Ribeiro tem preferência pela ênclise, enquanto os outros legendistas optam mais frequentemente pela próclise, inclusive a próclise absoluta, e, por outro lado, que ela opta por MDs que aderem mais facilmente às normas da Netflix, como “não é?” e “certo”, em detrimento de outras formas mais comuns aos outros legendistas, como “né?” e “tá(!)”. Com base nesses resultados, a pesquisa conclui que Talita, ao ocupar certo espaço nas legendas, deixa sua impressão digital por meio da sua preferência pessoal pelo uso variado de registros linguísticos, com preferência pelo registro formal da língua portuguesa. ; Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) e Fundação de Apoio à Pesquisa do Distrito Federal (FAP/DF). ; Studies on the translator‘s style are very recent and have sought to understand how the translator's fingerprint materializes in the translated text (BAKER, 2000; MUNDAY, 2008; SALDANHA, 2011a; 2011b). Based on this premise, this thesis aims to show how the style of the professional subtitler Talita Ribeiro is characterized by presenting the way she employs pronoun placement and discourse markers (DMs) in the subtitles of some episodes of the TV Series Star Trek: Enterprise and discussing the implications of such linguistic habits in comparison to the work done by other subtitlers. By drawing on Corpus-Based Translation Studies (BAKER, 1993; 1995; 1996; 1999; 2000; 2004; BERBER SARDINHA, 2004, McENERY; WILSON, 2001, SALDANHA, 2011a; TOGNINI-BONELLI, 2001), this investigation makes use of WordSmith Tools©, version 7, to detect some pronouns and DMs and observe their use in context in the corpora of this research. Herein, the study corpus is made up of subtitles files available on Netflix, in Brazilian Portuguese, for episodes 10 and 11 (season 1) and 16 and 24 (season 2) of the aforementioned TV series, whereas the reference corpus is composed of other subtitles files of the same seasons made by various subtitlers. Having investigated the use of pronoun placement and discourse markers in the subtitles, this research proves, on the one hand, that Mrs. Ribeiro prefers enclisis, while the other subtitlers frequently opt for proclisis, including absolute proclisis, and, on the other hand, that she employs DMs that most easily adhere to Netflix standards, such as ―não é?‖ and ―certo‖, instead of other forms more commonly used by the other subtitlers, such as ―né?‖ and ―tá(!)‖. In light of these results, the research concludes that Mrs. Ribeiro, by occupying certain space in the subtitles, leaves her fingerprint through her personal preference for different uses of linguistic registers, especially the formal register of the Portuguese language.
